Tummy Tuck

Is excess skin and fat around your midsection making you feel uncomfortable? Have you tried diet and exercise without seeing your desired results? A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can remove that stubborn fat and skin that hangs around your midsection to give you a smoother, firmer abdomen.

Tampa, FL, plastic surgeon Joseph M. Brown expertly performs different types of tummy tuck procedures based on your unique goals.

Understanding a Tummy Tuck

/

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess fat and skin around the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles to achieve a slimmer and firmer midsection. It's a great solution for those who have lost a significant amount of weight, are carrying excess fat after pregnancy, or can't reach their desired results even after diet and exercise.

Take a Closer Look  at What an Abdominoplasty Can Solve

A tummy tuck, when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, can:

  • Remove excess fat
  • Remove excess skin
  • Tighten abdominal muscles
  • Tone your midsection
  • Smooth your abdomen
  • Enhance your figure

While a tummy tuck can enhance your entire silhouette, it cannot be used as a weight loss solution. Tummy tucks are best suited for people who are near their goal weight or those who have recently lost a significant amount of weight and have lingering excess skin and fat.

Loose skin and excess fat around the hips enlarged this patient's figure. Dr. Brown removed the excess tissue to create a more aesthetically pleasing silhouette.

Natural-Looking Results Down to the Finest Detail

Many people looking into plastic surgery worry that their results won't look natural. Dr. Brown is meticulous about giving beautiful and natural-looking results in every procedure, including tummy tucks.

Worried about the finer details of the procedure? Take a closer look at the belly button of this abdominoplasty patient. During a tummy tuck, Dr. Brown makes no modifications to the belly button itself—instead, he cuts around the belly button to reveal it. Additionally, the thin scar can easily be hidden by clothing so no one has to know you've undergone plastic surgery.

Tummy Tuck Options We Offer
Which Is Best for You?

We offer several types of abdominoplasty at our Tampa, FL, office. The right one for you will depend on your goals. All our options are outpatient procedures, and most are combined with VASER® liposuction to further enhance the results.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full abdominoplasty addresses the excess skin and fat in the upper and lower abdomen. The incision is made along the bikini line, so it is easily concealed after surgery. During this procedure, Dr. Brown removes the excess tissue, then redrapes and tightens the skin. Your belly button stays in place and is more defined with the excess tissue removal. Your plastic surgeon then sews the muscles together, narrowing your waist and creating an hourglass appearance.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini abdominoplasty removes excess skin in the lower abdomen between your belly button and pubic area. This is a great option for people, especially mothers, who have a small pouch, or "baby bulge," that won't disappear with diet and exercise.

Reverse Tummy Tuck

Instead of focusing on excess fat and skin in the lower abdomen, a reverse tummy tuck removes excess tissue from the upper abdomen. Incisions for this procedure are made along the breast folds and the skin is pulled up toward the lower chest to tighten.

Extended Tummy Tuck

This procedure is best for people who have undergone a weight loss transformation. This procedure addresses excess tissue around your entire waist rather than just your stomach. Due to the excess abdominal skin and fat removal, the incision is longer. However, through an extended tummy tuck, Dr. Brown can improve your contours, lift your pubic region, and reframe your entire torso to give you a slimmer, smoother figure.

Lipoabdominoplasty

Dr. Brown excels at this specialized procedure. He combines a full tummy tuck with liposculpture to enhance abdominal contours and create incredible definition. Liposuction is used not only in the abdomen but also in the hips and flanks, giving you a defined figure.

Hourglass Tummy Tuck

The hourglass tummy tuck combines three surgeries in one to give you the ultimate silhouette. This procedure delivers slimmer, tighter results while also providing the enhanced curves of an hourglass figure. The hourglass tummy tuck combines:
-A full tummy tuck to slim and smooth your midsection
-Liposculpture to remove unwanted pockets of fat
-A Brazilian butt lift to enhance the shape and size of your buttocks by repurposing the fat from the liposuction

Tummy Tuck FAQ

Will I be asleep for the procedure?

Most patients receive local and general anesthesia during their tummy tuck procedure. This ensures you sleep through the entire process and are in minimal pain.

Is a tummy tuck painful?

A tummy tuck is a lot less painful than people expect. Dr. Brown administers a nerve block in the abdominal wall to minimize pain immediately following the procedure. We also offer numbing medications to help with long-term pain.

Will I have visible scarring?

While the incision is longer than a C-section incision, scars are very thin and easily hidden behind panties or a bikini. The scars also heal extremely well making them not as prevalent as one would think. Take some time to view our photo gallery and see the healed scars and how well they can be concealed.

Do you accept financing?

We do! The financing options at our Tampa office include CareCredit®, PatientFi®, and Alphaeon® to break up your payments and make the cost of your procedure more manageable.

Do You Still Have Questions?

"I cannot recommend Dr Brown enough."

"I am not sure there are words to describe my appreciation and awe of Dr Brown and his entire team. I have spent the last 16 years pregnant, nursing, pumping, or on meds to become pregnant for the 8 wonderful babies I’ve brought to the world... As much as I loved seeing every stretch mark, being reminded of their stories, I finally decided I was ready to have my body back, all to myself. Dr Brown not only brought my dream to life, but he produced more than I could have imaged was even possible... His artful skill in what he does, along with his incredible PAs, surpassed every expectation... If you’re on the fence, or still looking for that perfect fit, I cannot recommend Dr Brown enough.
