Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)
As the body experiences weight fluctuations, the skin relaxes and fatty tissue is deposited in various areas. These problem areas can be difficult to manage even through proper diet and exercise. It is common for the thigh to develop loose skin and fat which can cause embarrassment and restrict clothing choices, which is particularly troublesome in warm and sunny regions. Thigh lift (thighplasty) is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper arms, dramatically improving the appearance and silhouette of the thighs. Many patients who undergo massive weight loss or bariatric surgery seek this type of surgery and are happy with their postoperative results.
Thigh Lift Procedure
Thigh lift is performed to enhance the looks of the inner thigh and/or outer thigh. There are different variations of a thigh lift.
The type of thigh lift used will depend on how much excess skin is present and where it is located. A medial thigh lift focuses on the inner aspect of the upper thigh. Skin and fat is removed and a scar is well hidden along the groin crease. This helps to create a space between each thigh when standing in an upright position, particularly while wearing more form-fitted clothing.
For patients who have more severe laxity along the thigh, a longer incision is needed to address skin lower on the thigh. In these instances, skin is removed from the entire circumference of the thigh and the scar is concealed to the medial or “inner” aspect of the thighs.
Finally, for patients who have severe laxity in the inner and outer aspect of their thighs, a medial thigh lift may be combined with an outer thigh lift to excise excess skin and elevate/tighten the skin around the entire thigh.
Depending on the skin and tissue quality of the patient, liposuction may be performed alone or in addition to skin excision to achieve the best possible contour during your arm lift procedure in the Tampa Bay, Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Westchase, and Lutz area. Dr. Brown tailors a specific treatment to each and every patient.
What to Expect with your Thigh Lift
This thighplasty surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and if this is the only procedure, patients will go home the same day. Some patients may require an overnight stay if this is combined with other body contouring procedures. A drain is typically placed as well to help prevent complications. Limited activity is allowed 2-3 weeks after surgery but strenuous activity is avoided for about 6-8 weeks after surgery.
